NOTE ABOUT SHOWN LOT DIVISIONS: The two areas showing lot divisions (Meadow Glen and Ela Hills) above are simply there because a local resident e-mailed me those two maps. The fact that these divisions are shown does not indicate they are for sale at this time. In fact, many lot divisions were created back in the 1880s. If we were to go to the city we could get lot division maps and plug them into each space between all the streets above. You can click on those areas to see the old maps larger if you like. PLEASE COME TO THE JANUARY 15 MEETING. Jan. 14, 2004: I was walking this morning around the radio tower. I noticed surveyor sticks at the fork on the road, at flat top. One is marked "approximate corner lot one." There are 4 houses being constructed on Thomas. The builder told me they have been presold. Another plan calls for 17 houses in that same area. A development is planned for Berenice Place. And now they are marking off flat top proper. It seems that the developers have found our hill and we are in real danger of losing flat top to development. I visited Franklin Canyon twice recently. A friend turned me on to it. This property is owned and managed by the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy and is located between Studio City and Beverly Hills, off Coldwater Canyon Road. The place is beautiful. Lush and green with extensive trails, 2 ponds and lots of wild ducks. I looked at this and thought, why can't we have this in our community? There are no doubt a number of reasons we don't have this on flat top. The one we can control as a community is that we haven't demanded it. We really need to advocate for such a place in our community. People For Parks will present their final report/proposal at the next MHIA meeting. Chuck Arnold of Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy will be there too. We have requested representatives from the offices of Reyes, Goldberg and Romero. I am asking that you come too. It is imperative that we show the elected officials that this is a priority for our community. The meeting is Thursday, Jan 15, 7 PM at the Montecito Heights Senior Center. There is no reason we cannot have something as wonderful as Franklin Canyon in Montecito Heights. Please work with us to make it happen.
